Establishing a Day Surgery Unit

Delivering medical treatment through the planned day treatment unit — which will hold (10 beds) fully equipped — to children with cancer and tumours at King Fahad National Cancer Centre itself, without the need to attend the main hospital.

Target group:

Children with cancer, blood disorders and tumours attending King Fahad National Centre for Children's Cancer.

Project rationale:

Children with blood disorders and tumours who undergo same-day procedures such as tube insertion and removal, tooth extraction and dental restoration currently have to be admitted as inpatients at King Fahad National Centre or attend scheduled outpatient clinics at the main King Faisal Specialist Hospital, as the Centre has no day surgery unit.

Project returns:

Shortening the time the child patient waits for treatment. Reducing the number of outpatient procedures taken on by the main hospital. Increasing the number of patients who can be treated, thanks to the shorter waiting time. Improving the patient experience.

Estimated budget:

The cost of building the medical unit for the day surgery unit is estimated at SAR 10,000,000, including all its fittings and medical equipment.
