Establishing a Cardiac Medicine and Surgery Center in Madinah
King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre in Madinah seeks to establish a specialist centre for cardiac medicine and surgery.
The project runs in two phases, based on current need and expected growth.
Core services the project will provide:
Interventional cardiac procedures.
Cardiac surgery.
Strategic objectives:
Delivering advanced cardiac services to international standards.
Strengthening medical partnerships and attracting patients.
Turning the hospital into a centre of excellence in cardiac care.
Project scope:
Establishing a specialist cardiac care centre serving the Madinah region, home to 2.1 million people, along with surrounding areas with a population of up to 1.4 million.
The project follows an expansion plan matched to rising demand.
Market analysis:
The Madinah region currently has one specialist centre for cardiac medicine and surgery, run by the Madinah Health Cluster, performing more than 8,500 catheterisations a year and 940 cardiac operations, with growth of 8.1% in cardiac catheterisation cases and 6.8% in cardiac surgery over the past five years.
The centre faces difficulties in expanding given the number of beds available, alongside long waiting lists for cardiac interventions.
Expected growth once a cardiac centre is established at King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre – Madinah:
Starting from 10 catheterisations and cardiac operations a week, and using the growth rate of the centre noted above.
After 5 years, the centre could cover 5.6% of the local cardiac catheterisation market and 10% of cardiac surgery, at a rate of 710 cardiac catheterisations and 135 cardiac operations a year.
