Mobile Blood Unit:

Helping to increase the number of donors to meet daily requirements and the growing demand across all blood types, and to spread and strengthen a culture of donation in the community.

Target group:

All members of the community.

Location:

King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (Riyadh – Jeddah – Madinah).

Financial scope:

SAR 9,000,000.

Project rationale:

  • A severe shortage of blood at the blood bank of King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre.
  • Too few donors (particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic).
  • Continually rising demand for rare blood types.
  • Too few blood collection units at the hospital.
  • The need to bring the blood units close to where people gather, so donors can reach them easily.

Facts and figures:

• Two blood units were provided for Riyadh and Madinah.
• A blood unit will be provided for Jeddah.
• When the unit is out, daily blood donations range between (80–120) in Riyadh and (30–50) in Jeddah.
