Mobile Unit for Early Breast Cancer Detection
The project's concept is to build a fully equipped mobile unit for breast cancer screening, offering mammography (2D/3D) and ultrasound scanning free of charge or at low cost to women in the Madinah region, particularly in remote communities with no access to medical centres.
The unit provides screening, medical consultation, health education and follow-up for cases needing further intervention, through regular monthly tours of target locations in cooperation with local partners — reaching the widest possible group of women, achieving early detection, and lowering the rates of breast cancer incidence and death.
Project rationale:
Increasing rates of early breast cancer detection among women in the Madinah region.
Reducing late diagnoses, which lowers death rates and cuts treatment costs.
Providing screening services in communities with limited access to healthcare.
Improving the chances of survival and prevention.
Project outputs:
Higher rates of early detection, which raises recovery rates and reduces long-term complications.
Lower treatment costs arising from treating late-stage breast cancer.
Screening services for 700–1,000 women a year, with close follow-up of cases with abnormal results.
A treatment follow-up rate above 80% for positive cases, ensuring effective and timely intervention.
Raising community health awareness among women about the importance of early screening and prevention.
Easier access to healthcare services in remote communities or those without screening centres.
Stronger community partnerships between the hospital and local and media bodies to increase impact and coverage.
Gathering accurate field health data to support future preventive health planning decisions.
Project objective:
Increasing the rate of early breast cancer detection among women in the Madinah region.
Providing mammography and ultrasound screening free of charge or at a nominal cost.
Reaching remote and underserved communities through a mobile unit that regularly tours target locations.
Raising community awareness of the importance of early screening, risk factors and the symptoms of breast cancer, through awareness campaigns and educational materials.
Achieving a high rate of adherence to medical follow-up (80%) among cases showing abnormal results in the initial screening.
Reducing long-term health costs through early detection and by avoiding advanced, costly stages of treatment.
Strengthening community partnership with government, health and media bodies to support reach and impact.
Geographic scope:
The Madinah region and its surroundings.
Target group:
Women in general, within awareness and preventive screening campaigns.
Estimated budget:
Total value of this project: SAR 5,500,000.
