Establishing a leading research system to conduct cancer research and translate its findings into preventive and therapeutic health practice — uniting research capability and the treatment expertise built up over forty years of research and advanced clinical care at the Organization, drawing on outstanding talent, taking up promising clinical and laboratory research ideas, and setting a complete research roadmap for cancer to accelerate joint work between research scientists and physicians in delivering it.

The Centre will be built within the campus of the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre General Organization in Riyadh.

• King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre treats around 23% of cancer cases diagnosed each year, referred from every region of the Kingdom. It is also a regional reference centre for cancer treatment and research.
• Research links and coordination are weak between scientists across different specialties and oncologists at national level, and even within a single institution — which means missed opportunities to develop targeted scientific research and translate it into useful therapeutic and preventive initiatives.

• The Centre will house more than 10 main departments, specialised programmes and advanced research centres equipped with the latest technology.
• More than 300 research, technical and administrative staff will work at the Centre.
• The Centre will contribute more than 500 research studies and scientific papers a year, published in leading scientific journals.
